Eco-printed and hand-dyed silk scarves make the perfect accessory to wear with your Olann handknits. I make these scarves seasonally, when there are enough flowers and other foliage to make beautiful prints. So in the Spring and Summer you’ll usually see new scarves join the collection when I find the time.

I use two different types of silk scarf. Each listing will indicate which scarf is shown, so do pay attention to the information below to ensure you choose the style you want.

The Silk Charmeuse is a thick silk making it exceptionally luxurious. It has a beautiful subtle sheen to the top side and a matte underside, as well as a hand-rolled hem. This scarf measures approximately 22 x 22 inches, and works well tied as a kerchief and in the hair. The prints achieved on the charmeuse can often be quite defined.

The Silk Habotai is a finer silk, very lightweight and delicate. It has a hand-rolled hem and measures approximately 29 x 29 inches, so it is larger than the charmeuse. This size scarf also works great tied in the hair and makes a lovely scarf draped across the shoulders or around the neck. The prints achieved on the habotai are delicate and subtle.

To make each scarf, first they were mordanted, making them ready to accept the dyes. Then they are laid with flowers and foliage collected from my garden in Sooke, before being bound and steamed, allowing the heat to draw out the pigments from the plants. Some scarves are then selected to be over-dyed in a dye-bath. This Spring the dye-baths were made using Marigold, Black Night, Red Cabbage and Dandelion. Each scarf is completely unique. They are printed as a mirror image, so each side of the scarf is the same but different.

These scarves are ready-to-ship. They would make an excellent gift on their own, or they look beautiful paired with Olann knits.

A Note About Shipping

Silk scarves can be sent as oversized letter mail, for a smaller shipping cost. When sent as letter mail your address is not confirmed and you are not provided a tracking number, so you must ensure the address provided is accurate, including any PO BOX numbers or notes on GENERAL DELIVERY that may be required.
